The Coward Trust is a
registered charity for the benefit of ministers, lay people and local
congregations of the United Reformed Church and the Congregational
Church. The History page of this web site
gives more background and the opportunity to buy a copy of the recently
published history of the Coward Trust. Those wishing to undertake
more detailed research into the history of the Coward Trust should contact
the Dr. Williams’s Library (020 7387 3727) where historical records
may be examined by appointment.
The Grants
Criteria page explains how grant applications are assessed. The
main purposes of such grants are for training the whole people of God for
ministry and for encouraging congregations in mission. Some examples
of the training and mission projects which have been awarded grants are
listed on the Grants Awarded page.
It may be helpful for those undertaking sabbaticals to visit Westminster College, Cambridge, where United Reformed Church
sabbatical reports since 1986 are filed, in order to consult these
resources. Requests to visit should be made through the Revd Dr Janet Tollington, Director, The Cheshunt
Foundation, c/o Westminster College, Madingley Road, Cambridge CB3 0AA /
email: jet40@cam.ac.uk
Congregational or United Reformed Church ministers who are planning a
sabbatical and wish to make use of these resources can also apply to
the Director for finance to cover the costs of such a visit.
As part of the Coward
Trust's encouragement to stipendiary ministers to take best advantage of
their sabbatical leave, The Coward Prize is awarded from time to time for
the best sabbatical reports submitted to the trustees. Details of
prize-winners can be found on the Coward Prize
page, together with a form to request printed copies of the prize-winning
reports.
Application forms can be obtained from the Clerk
or by downloading them from this site.
